Eva’s Eats: Halloween Treats

Evas+Eats%3A+Halloween+Treats

With All Hallow’s Eve upon us, it’s time we tackle a very important issue: CANDY! When it comes to the treats of trick-or-treating, some candy is definitely better than others, no question about it. I present to you the top five gummies, hard candy, fruity candy, and chocolates to pass out or get on Halloween!

Gummies:

When it comes to these teeth sticking, cavity inducing sweets, it is very easy to go very, very wrong (especially if you’re buying the off brand variety pack candy)! Here are the best ways to go for Halloween gummy goodness:

  1. Airheads
  2. Laffy Taffy
  3. Sour Patch Kids
  4. Tootsie Rolls (yes, they’re gummies, well, technically chocolate flavored taffy- just think about how much you have to chew them!)
  5. Haribo (that means bears, worms, sharks, anything!)

Hard Candy:

When it comes to getting stuck in your teeth, hard candy is almost as bad as gummies, but if you eat them like they’re supposed to be (sucked on until there’s nothing left), hard candy can be worth it; just don’t leave them on the dash of your car on a hot day!

  1. Dum-dums (these are really only acceptable on Halloween)
  2. Blow Pops
  3. Runts
  4. Tootsie Pops (Halloween is the only time they rank higher than their gum centered cousins)
  5. Jolly Ranchers (there’s just something about finding one of these among the empty wrappers when you thought all was lost that makes this the choice hard candy)

Fruity:

Now to say these candies taste like fruit is a bit of a stretch, but you know what I mean!

  1. Nerds
  2. Smarties
  3. Twizzlers
  4. Starbursts
  5. Skittles

Chocolates:

Let’s just get this out of the way: it is not acceptable to hand out plain chocolate on Halloween! This means no mini- Hershey’s bars or Kisses. Halloween is all about chocolate filled with stuff like peanut butter, marshmallow, nuts, caramel, etc.. As a side note, Halloween is also the only time Kit-Kat’s and Crunch bars are acceptable for anything, otherwise they’re terrible.

  1. Whoppers
  2. Milk Duds
  3. Snickers, Milky Way, and 3 Musketeers (because they are essentially just different levels of the same chocolate bar)
  4. 100 Grand.
  5. Reese’s mini peanut butter cups (they even come in festive foil!)

Finally, acceptable non-candy, because you know there is always someone who just doesn’t understand the point of Halloween:

  1. Gold Fish
  2. Cheez-Its
  3. Pretzels
  4. Un-popped popcorn (there was a house that passed these out every year on Halloween, and I have to admit, it wasn’t that bad!)
  5. Oreos

There you have it, the best things to give out and get in your Halloween bag this year! Tune in next week when I will give you ideas for using up all your leftover candy.
