I just left Bennington, Vermont for the weekend for a delightful getaway in Exeter, New Hampshire.
Departing Southern Vermont College now and all I could think of was what a wonderful way to spend my weekend in a location I have never visited alongside a dear friend of mine named Rebecca Mahoney. On this three hour drive to Exeter, New Hampshire the two of us shared plenty of laughs and before I knew it we were pulling into her driveway receiving welcoming hugs from her loving family. After imagining this weekend for months now it was heart-warming to see it transition into a reality.
Entering the Mahoney’s house instantly felt great and shortly after settling in pizza had arrived for dinner. There I was sitting in the dining area surrounded by a great friend and her family. Conversations had passed and the food was finishing up and then dinner was over. A few minutes later her family came out with a cake that said “Happy Birthday Cheyenne” and two candles that were numbered “19” for the age I just turned – bringing joyful tears to my eyes as it was a wonderful surprise.
Later that evening Rebecca took me to Portsmouth, New Hampshire where we entered a record store called Bull Moose which was very interesting. In being there I was inspired to pick up a snazzy postcard as a souvenir – which I did! After the Bull Moose we stopped at a restaurant called “The Friendly Toast” where we just got beverages to close out our adventurous night.
The next morning the Mahoney’s had taken me to breakfast at their Grandmother’s house still in New Hampshire. To have a home cooked meal surrounded by such loving people felt really great. Afterwards, Rebecca’s mother took me on a tour of the historical town. We drove through Exeter, Rye, the Hamptons, the Fuller Gardens, Wallis Sands State Beach, New Castle, Fort Stark State Historical, Portsmouth Little Harbor, and Portsmouth Strawberry Banke. We got out of the car many times to see the beauty of the beaches up close. Everything I have seen here in New Hampshire in my short visit has really opened my eyes to see that there is a much bigger world out there then I thought.
Overall, I had a magnificent time in Exeter, New Hampshire and I look forward to returning again!
