A lot of things happen back home while you’ve been away at college. Here’s a little list to prepare you for the madness!
- All of your family members will ask all the same questions.
“Have you chosen a major?” “How are your grades?” “Do you party a lot? I read an article about that online.” “Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?” “How are classes?”
The list goes on and on. Your family will try to crack jokes and all you can do is fake laugh along and try to keep from screaming. Accept that your family is super nosey and wants to know everything. It’s okay, though, just go by the script and everything will run smoothly.
- You’ll realize just how much you’ve missed home cooking.
While dining hall food isn’t the worst thing you’ve eaten, nothing could ever compare to home cooking. You’ll probably make your parents cook for you all week, and come back to school with tupperware full of leftovers. You can try and make them last till winter break, right?
- Pretty much everything in your hometown changes.
That restaurant you used to always go to is gone. There are definitely way more apartments than when you left. Out with the old, and in with the new. As much as you want time to stop at home while you’re at school, it doesn’t.
- You’re pets miss you more than you think.
The first time you walk in the door when you get home your pets will probably have a freak attack. When I first came home, my old dog went so crazy he knocked me over .5 seconds after this picture was taken. You’ve been gone for only a little while, but to your pets it’s like you’ve been gone forever. They’ll probably be glued to your hip your entire time at home, but let’s be honest, that’s exactly how you want it.
- All your friends from home will want to hang out and make plans.
As much as you’ve missed them you won’t realize just how many people want to get together and catch up. You’ll be so busy over break you’ll forget that it’s a break and you’ll most likely be more exhausted by the time you get back to school. All the more reason to take an extra day off and reserve it to binge netflix and eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, no shame.
- You’ll run into people from high school you wished you would never see again.
After being in college for a bit you realize how dumb high school drama was, and how there was a whole group of people you never wanted to have to interact with ever again. You will most likely run into these exact people. Either way you’ll end up having super awkward small talk until you find a way to escape the torture. Or you can just hide and avoid them, which is much easier.
- You won’t want to go back to school.
After being at home, even for just a few days, you won’t ever want to leave. Being home is so much better; it’s like being a kid again. Everyone missed you and can’t wait to be with you, your parents are spoiling you because you’ve been gone, and there is no stress from school. Who would want to leave that?
