Dear World is a project that began in 2009 by Robert X. Fogarty. It all started in New Orleans with people who wrote love notes to their city. The focus of his project was for people to share one meaningful message to the world. They highlight:
“We aren’t changing the world, but we take pictures of people who are.”
After Fogarty started his project in New Orleans he realized that the stories people share are about far more than love for their locations, therefore he expanded his project. Since then he has been featured on the Today Show, CNN, PBS, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and Inc. magazine. His work includes stories of people who survived the Boston Marathon bombing (2013) to stories about celebrities such as Drew Brees.
I became aware of Dear World when Facebook friend Rachel Robtoy liked a post of Southern Connecticut University’s Dear World flyer. I looked into the project after seeing the flyer and became very interested in continuing the project here at SVC. I pursued the challenge to spread the word on campus and to tackle a project as big as this one so that those around me could share their stories with the world.
