This presidential election has caught everyone’s attention, way more than previous elections. Why you ask? Not only is former president Bill Clinton’s wife, Hillary Clinton, running for president, but entrepreneur Donald Trump is also running.

Hillary Clinton has been accused of hiding and storing top secret information in her email, while Donald Trump has been criticized for the rude comments he would make at his campaign speeches. He has made nasty remarks about women, mentally disabled people, has talked about building a wall around Mexico so immigrants cannot come into the US, and more. People are not happy with what is being said about Clinton hiding emails, but some people are even more unhappy with Donald Trump possibly being the president of our country, and have even said they would vote for Clinton just so Trump does not become president. Although, many people do not want Trump to be president, and have even made remarks about leaving this country, there are still people who actually do want him to win, and believe he would do a great job, although he has no political experience whatsoever. According to http://www.electoral-vote.com/, Hillary is leading the polls right now which is making a lot of Americans happy, but the polls are going back and forth everyday which makes it difficult to pin point who will win next month’s elections.

The first debate was very intense as topics such as national security, economic and trade plans, and race relations were broken down. Trump said about Clinton that every decision she made always failed. Trump has made controversial comments regarding women, and even said Clinton did not have the “presidential look” according to New York Times and didn’t have enough stamina to be commander in chief. “I don’t believe she has the stamina to be president of this country. You need tremendous stamina,” Trump said.

Trump criticized Clinton for taking several days away from the campaign to prepare for the debate. Clinton’s response was “And, you know what else I have prepared for? I prepared to be president, and that’s a good thing.” I cannot understand, why Donald Trump would even suggest preparing for a debate against her competitor would even be a bad thing? Why is it bad that she wanted to be prepared for her debate, so she knew what she was going to say and that she would do a good job.

Trump has refused to release his taxes, something every presidential nominee has done. He said it was because he was under audit. Clinton believes he is not releasing them, because it may show he did not pay federal taxes, just like he did in the past when previous tax returns showed he didn’t when he had to show them to get a casino license. Trump’s reasoning for not releasing them was that it was against his lawyers advice, and “it made him smart, and his taxes may be squandered too.” Trump also said he would release his taxes against his lawyers wishes if Clinton released emails she had deleted from her controversial State Department private server.

When ISIS and the threat of terrorism topic came up, Trump criticized Clinton for outlining her plan on her website, stating that she is tipping the enemy on her strategies. Trump said he will not detail his plans because of this concern. “She tells you how to fight ISIS on her website. I don’t think General Douglas MacArthur would like that too much,” Trump said. “No wonder you have been fighting ISIS all of your adult life.” Trump also said, which is confusing considering ISIS had just formed in the past few years.

During the debate, Trump said he “did not support the war in Iraq” which is completely not true, as he has talked previously about how he does in fact support the war in Iraq. Trump also defended the stop and frisk law in New York City, that has been ended. He also said because this policy is not in effect anymore, the crime rate in the city had gone up. A New York City police department spokesman tweeted that statistic is not true.

Trump described Clinton as being a career politician, but does not think she will make any difference when it comes to creating new jobs, and stimulating the economy, since she has not done so in the past 30 years that she has been involved in politics. “Hillary, let me ask you this. You have been in politics for 30 years. Why are you just now thinking of these solutions? For 30 years, you’ve been doing it. And, you are just now starting to think of solutions,” Trump said.

Clinton believes she has a great amount of stamina, maybe even more than Trump himself, and would do a great job as being president of the US. “Well, as soon as he travels to 112 countries and negotiates peace deals, a cease-fire release of dissidents, and opening of new opportunity and nations around the world, or even spends 11 terrifying hours in front of a congressional committee, he can talk to me about stamina,” Clinton remarked.

Clinton brought up how Trump had made past comments about women, and how he said they were “pigs, slobs, and dogs” and also said “pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers”, and “women do not deserve equal pay unless they do as good as a job as men.” Clinton talked about one of the “worst” things he has ever said about women. “One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest. He loves beauty contests, supporting them, and hanging around them, and he called this woman “Miss Piggy”. He called her “Miss Housekeeping”, because she was Latina. Donald, she has a name. Her name is Alicia Machado, and she has become a US citizen, and you can bet she is going to vote this November.”

This was a very tense debate in a very popular and controversial presidential election. Many people want Trump to win, and many people think if Trump actually becomes president it will be a complete joke to this country. So, I end this piece with a final question: Who do you think will become the next President of the United States.
