In the United Kingdom (UK), there have been serious allegations of abuse made against 83 football (or, as you may know it as, soccer) players. Police say there are over 98 clubs, ranging from amateur to professional, possibly involved in cases of child abuse. Ninety-eight percent of the victims are said to be male, and their ages vary from 7 to 20 years old. Police received over 630 referrals from a children’s charity called the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children). Information is being passed to “Operation Hydrant” which  was created by the NSPCC. Operation Hydrant oversees the investigation, as well as allegations of child abuse that are considered to be non-recent, before sharing information with the police. Even though 98 football clubs were mentioned, police state that not all of them are being investigated. The investigation is ongoing. If anyone here at SVC wants to learn more about children being abused and want to donate go to the NSPCC.org.uk website.
