What Can I Say?

by Takiyah Douglas

What can I say?

“This shouldn’t be happening to me” or “Life isn’t fair”?

Just how many more obstacles do I have to complete? How many times do I have to compete, to meet the standards that are required to BE an “adult” and what does that even mean?

Do I have to struggle by myself in silence and bare the burden I’m not sure I even wanted? Am I strong for taking it all? Because I don’t feel like it. But I just shrug it off every time I get a home call.

And you won’t hear me ask for money. Oh no! I can’t accept help, it has to do with pride and I don’t want to get anywhere with free rides, but with just a bit of fortune.

Just some kind of hope or small opportunity that can get me rolling to where I need to see the beginning of my efforts.

But what can I say?
