On the week of Valentine’s, the International Writing Centers Association has an annual history of celebrating Writing Center week. This year, it seems, is no different. It would appear that the good lady, Catherine Burns has issued the lot of us with a challenge, of sorts. The challenge says something along the lines of:

Come, peons. Pens, out!

In honor of Valentine’s,

Name the game: Haikus

As an avid advocate for all things related to the ancient and most noble art of ‘writing for fun’ I personally find myself excited to enter the figurative arena and do literary battle with you all, so-to-speak. In fact, I’d even go so far as to say that if you were to convert my enthusiasm into a tangible number, it would be roughly equal-to or greater-than Rambo’s body count (72, if you were wondering). The theme is ‘writing’. Anything goes, provided you aren’t writing in the blood of your enemies (that would be an instant win, and thus, cheating).

That said, the entries will be read and judged by Alena Hunt, Torrey Kurtzner, and yours truly. The winner will be named ‘Undisputed God(dess) of Hyperdeath’ for a day. Oh, you’ll also receive a neat little Jazzman’s gift card for all of your coffee, tea, and nourishment needs.

The cutoff date is set for Friday, the 16th.  You can email your submission to [email protected]. We hope to see many creative submissions. Your submissions will be judged anonymously, so if you owe any of us money you’re off the hook, this time.
