Gucci vs. Louis Vuitton

Gucci+vs.+Louis+Vuitton

Designer brands have always been something something I believed I could never have enough of. Here is a brief poll conducted by Straw Poll in June of 2017 between the two brands I’ve selected for this weeks article review. Gucci was established in 1921 by François-Henri Pinault. “Guccio opened their first stores in Florence on Via Vigna Nuova and then Via del Parione.”(Wikipedia). Louis Vuitton was a French box-maker and packer (born on August 4, 1821 in Anchay, a small working-class settlement in the east of France) who founded the luxury brand of the same name over 150 years ago.

Gucci has always been a favorite of mines but not until I got older and understand the concept of why it was created just because of its impact on today’s culture. When you look on social media or TV, I’m pretty sure you’ll see your favorite rapper or singer wearing Gucci or even talking about it. Artist Future, for example, earlier this year posted a snap of a bed full of Gucci socks, the caption saying “spent a half a million just on socks”. A young person coming up into a society that influences most teenagers and young adults to buy products, creating an even higher stream of publicity to the brand of purchase.

Both brands offer a high end of customer service alongside with high end clothing fabrics, making them true competitors in the fashion realm. Have you ever had the thought of buying something worth as much as your house rent? I’m pretty sure everyone has at some point. These prices they display on on the clothing makes you shy away when you’re on a budget, not everyone can afford to buy products from Gucci and Louis V. In this day in age of the 21 century people would rather spend their last little bit of money on expensive fabrics to fit in and be apart of a group of people instead of spending their money on what they really need. Sometimes people don’t always do what’s best for themselves, the things we know only shape our thoughts in a little way.

Unlike classic popular brands like Tommy Hilfiger, there hasn’t been a time when the CEO of either company made a racist commentary. However regardless the the CEO’s personal views, ultimately I do look for the fashion aspect. It’s always good to know background information for designers that I look up to, at the end of the day it’s all about the fashion and the people wearing it.

Out of the two, I prefer Louis because the designs and patterns really caught my eye when I first encountered the brand. The infamous women’s handbag/purse was what was promoted so much.  My first purchase was a brown belt with the checkerboard marking all across the whole belt then I gradually started buying other designer belts (I remember copping a MCM belt for around $130”)”.

I hope to have my own brand like these two awesome places one day, that’s  honestly what I’m working towards now. I truly have seen them blow up from the start, still think its cool how fashion history is still being made.
