I was having a discussion with one of my teammates and we couldn’t decide who the strongest superhero of all time is. I know it’s one of those debates that will never have a “right’ side, kind of like the MJ versus Lebron debate (although you can’t argue with six rings, just saying). I decided to put together a tournament-like bracket for superheros and see who I came up with as a winner. Of course there are many things to consider, such as where the fight takes place or what weapons can be used in the fight. I tried to make the first round fights as fair as possible. Have this debate with your friends and see who you all come up with.

East Bracket

Wolverine vs Spider-Man

Winner: Wolverine. If we set this fight in a coliseum-like atmosphere, Spider-man would have nowhere to run or use his webs to get around. Spider-Man might have the ability to tie Wolverine up but his claws would allow him an escape. On top of all this, Spider-Man’s innate way of not being able to kill would make him an easy first round for Wolverine.

Superman vs The Hulk

Winner: Superman. While the Hulk may have the advantage in size and mass, Superman simply possesses the ability to fly, along with his God-like strength making it hard for the Hulk to calibrate and attack his opponent.

West Bracket

Flash vs Silver Surfer

Winner: Silver Surfer. They both possess super speed but Silver Surfer goes far beyond just speed; he connects with the universe’s ambient energy and can manipulate it to destroy Flash. This was an easy one.

Magneto vs Venom

Winner: Venom. Magneto can bend and control metal and magnetic fields but Venom can shapeshift and form spikes or some sort of defensive barrier mechanism against metal. Venom also has some of the same powers as Spider-man, this would be a quick fight.

South Bracket

Wonder Woman vs Mystique

Winner: Wonder Woman. Physically, Mystique doesn’t stand a chance against Wonder Woman unless she can manage to find herself a man to tie together her bracelets. For the sake of trying to level the playing field, we’ll say there is no man around and Wonder Woman just uses her super strength or her incredibly sharp and dangerous tiara to tear Mystique apart… literally.

Black Panther vs Batman

Winner: Black Panther. This one actually took some research for me, but in the end it’s not even close. While they both rely heavily on their suits, Black Panther’s suit, which is powered by a Wakandian crystal, gives him way more powers than Batman’s suit. Black Panther takes on super strength, super speed, enhanced durability, quick healing and heightened senses.

Midwest Bracket

Iron-man vs Captain America

Winner: Captain America. You can watch the movie for references. I’ll leave it at that but it would be a better fight than the movie demonstrated.

Doctor Strange vs Thor

Winner: Doctor Strange. He’s the greatest sorcerer in the Marvel universe. While Thor does have some magic, I still give the advantage to Doctor Strange being able to control the aspect of reality. Thor would need to engage in physical combat to defeat Doctor Strange but Doctor Strange wouldn’t allow it. Although Strange doesn’t have the innate murderous rage that Thor may have, he would still win this fight.

Winners that move on to next week’s fights:

  • Wolverine
  • Superman
  • Silver Surfer
  • Venom
  • Wonder Woman
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Doctor Strange
