Time Wasters: Video Game Edition

I’m a big video game fanatic. Actually, part of my problem is I spend too much time playing video games. You might ask why it’s a bad thing if it’s during my free time; well, I will sometimes go 2 or 3 hours playing a game before I realize I’m hungry or need to use the bathroom, so that’s an issue. I also have a habit of neglecting my phone or the people around me when I’m playing. With all of this being said, I’d like to introduce you all to my favorite games out right now .

Kingdom Hearts 3

KH3 is an RPG (role-playing game) action game that is available on Playstation 4 and Xbox one. The Kingdom Hearts sequel was my favorite game growing up. The first two games came out in the early 2000s, with the third installment released in February. The game is a mix of Final Fantasy (a separate series of games) and Disney/Pixar. The protagonist, Sora, is accompanied by Donald Duck and Goofy throughout their adventure. The trio’s mission is to prevent Xehanort from starting another war and stop him from destroying all of the other disney worlds. This nostalgic game is perfect for people of all ages because you come across characters from some of your favorite childhood movies such as: Monsters Inc., Frozen, Toy Story, Hercules etc. You even get cameos from Mickey himself!

Apex Legends

Apex is great for many reasons, the most important of them being that the game is FREE! It is a downloadable game for all platforms. This new battle royale game is very similar to that of Call of Duty: Blackout. One difference is that Apex forms teams of 3 no matter what. You can play by yourself, with random players or with your friends. Another major difference is the aspect of character selection. There are 8 different characters to select from, and each one poses a different “power” that gives you an advantage throughout the course of the match. This first-person shooter is great for anyone looking for a new battle royale game that isn’t Fortnite.

Red Dead Redemption 2

RDR2 is an old western style, free roam RPG. It’s similar to Grand Theft Auto in the sense that there is ALWAYS something you can do in the game. Whether you’d like to complete missions and finish the story mode of the game, or if you want to just wander around time and beat people up for no apparent reason at all, there is always more action around every corner of this game. You can even play on the same server as some of your friends and complete missions together or have old fashioned shootouts. I’d recommend this one for anybody who appreciated any of the Grand Theft Auto installments.

Days Gone

I don’t think I’ve ever anticipated a game’s release more than Days Gone. I’m a big fan of the zombie apocalypse setting, and am always imagining how I’d fare if zombies took over the world. This game is the perfect simulation of that (except I don’t actually have to live it). This free roam RPG takes place after a virus outbreak that turns people into what the game calls Freakers. The game follows the story of our main character Deacon, who has lost just about everything and is just trying to survive in a world where most of humanity is gone. Sure, the zombie apocalypse theme has been saturated enough, but if you’re not tired of it yet then this game is the perfect fit.

This is a short and compressed list of the games that have occupied a lot of my time over the last few months. Of course there are other games out there that may suit your preference better than these here. There are also some hot games that are set to be released this year!
