Monday April 6th, 2015, marked Opening Day for America’s favorite pastime. Major League Baseball (MLB) games were played all over the United States. Some teams started their seasons off great, while others fell short in front of their home crowds.
One team that started the season off right was the Boston Red Sox. The Sox won their opener to the Philadelphia Phillies. Both Dustin Pedroia and Hanley Ramirez hit two home runs apiece while Mookie Betts, also recorded a home run. Clay Buchholz took the win from the circle, while Cole Hamels, of the Phillies, took the loss.
Another team starting off hot at home was the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres of San Diego fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-6. The Dodgers had Joel Peralta pitching, and Shawn Kelley was in the circle for the Padres. Chris Hatcher was credited with the save. For Los Angeles, both Adrian Gonzalez and Jimmy Rollins recorded homeruns.
The Baltimore Orioles also had a successful home opener after beating the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2. Chris Tillman, of the Orioles, picked up the win, while Chris Archer took the loss from the mound. Baltimore had three home runs hit by Alejandro De Aza, Steve Pearce, and Ryan Flaherty. The Rays recorded a home run of their own from Evan Longoria.
Unfortunately, the Miami Marlins were not so lucky. The Atlanta Braves won a close one to the Miami Marlins at Miami’s home opener. The Braves scored two runs, while holding the Marlins to one. Julio Tehreran took the win from the mound, Henderson Alvarez took the loss, and Jason Grilli was credited for the save.
The New York Yankees lost their home opener to The Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees scored only one compared to Toronto’s six. Picking up the win from the mound was Drew Hutchinson, while Masahiro Tonaka took the loss for New York. Toronto’s Edwin Encarnacion and Devon Travis had home runs off of Tonaka, while Brett Gardner of the Yankees recorded their only home run.
Some other results from Opening Day include; the Detroit Tigers defeating the Minnesota Twins 4-0, The New York Mets winning to The Washington Nationals 3-1, Colorado Rockies winning 10-0 to The Milwaukee Brewers, and The Kansas City Royals beating The Chicago White Sox 10-1.
