Lauren Gasco is a first year student here at Southern Vermont College majoring in Nursing being one of the toughest majors at many colleges. She was born and raised in a small town called Douglas, Massachusetts and is one of two kids in her household.
As I talked to Lauren Gasco about what her favorite thing about SVC was she could not stop listing everything that made her fascinated about being here. She said it all started with the beautiful views that surround the campus, to her small class sizes that make her feel very comfortable, to the friends that she met, and most importantly the little things like professors actually knowing who she is. It was easy to recognize that she is more than happy to go here.
She understands that majoring in Nursing is beyond hard, but she is on the pursuit to saving lives for the rest of her own life and said herself that she is willing to do whatever it takes in order to so. She grew the passion to want to be a nurse back when she was in middle school. Her aunt was a contributing factor in why she decided to go down the path of nursing because she saw her aunt push hard to get her Master’s Degree to become one and then afterwards heard many experiences that her aunt faced.
She enjoys being an active participant on campus in example, she volunteered at the Garlic Fest early in September and she also helped during family weekend. She plans on doing a lot more in the community throughout the next few months and feels as though she can because of how much SVC has to offer. Regarding school events she goes to nearly all of them and explains what a blast she’s had at each of them.
What I could not help, but agree on was when she mentioned the small class sizes being a great fit for her. Although Lauren comes from a small town she said that her school was quite big and that her teachers did not really know her that much while at SVC she feels they knew her instantly and that a connection was built in a matter of weeks. The environment here academically has made her feel more acknowledged and for that she says she is grateful.
