Dominant on every side, Royals put Mets on their heels. Johnny Cueto only gave up two hits and Royals hitters clobbered Mets while defending home turf. The Royals have it man, they just do. They just looked better tonight, and that really took the Mets by surprise.
For the Mets, Jacob deGrom started the night on fire, breezing through the first four innings. It looked like one of those normal nights where Jake was in the driver’s seat. After giving up the lead to the Mets in the 5th, Royals hitters seemingly turned on a switch, put up four runs and knocked the 2014 Rookie of the Year, out of the baseball game. Mets hitters also had no answer for Johnny Cueto, who except for giving up two hits to Lucas Duda, was unhittable all night and confused Mets timing.
For the Royals, it must be nice to be sitting up two games to nothing. I think the X factor for the Royals is Eric Hosmer. With 2 outs in the 5th and the game tied 1-1 Hosmer smashed a ball back up the middle to give the Royals the go-ahead runs. The Royals would tack on one more in that inning and three runs in the eighth and put the Mets to bed. The Royals seemingly look like the team of destiny 1 through 9 in their batting lineup is tough, and they don’t strike out, which challenges the young flame throwers of the Mets. The Royals look like the team of destiny, and at this point, who can argue. Even third baseman for the Mets, David Wright said while taking questions from reporters, “We can’t make any adjustments, we really can’t change much, they’re just playing flawless baseball”
Game three, four, and five will take place in Queens, New York, a place that hasn’t seen a World Series game in 15 years! I’m excited to see the Mets faithful come alive. If the Mets want to rise up, they’re gonna have to formulate a game plan, for the Royals, keep doing what their doing, Keep playing, “Royals Baseball”. If history has anything to say to the Mets, the 1986 Mets who made their improbable run to the World Series and won a title, lost the first and second game of the World Series by the same number of runs. A bleak glimmer of hope. Game Three will be very dominant, young flamethrowers on both sides, for the Mets, Noah Syndergaard will take on the huge task of keeping The Mets in this series, and The Royals will let Yordano Ventura take the mound to try to bury the Mets in the dirt for real. I’m thrilled to see these guys pitch mostly for the fact that they both throw really really hard. Both pitchers are the hardest throwing starters in their respective leagues and the average number on their fastball? 97 MPH. I can’t wait to see the gameplans used on both sides. Game Three is Friday night at 8:07 PM.
