For a couple hours it felt like a livewire was left exposed inside the Mountaineer Athletic Center and the Trailblazers walked into a arena they stood very little chance in. In the first live action of Wreckage, we start off in the locker room with a few words by Coach Engelstad. Before the first whistle, Southern Vermont’s own Natalie Rose Canterbury started off the night with a beautifully, chilling rendition of the National Anthem. Only to be followed up after the tip by Casey Hall with a good defense play on MCLA’s Careem Kirksey, welcoming him to block party. The Mountaineers went on a 7-point run coming out of the half to go up by 26 and never looked in the rearview mirror, ending with a score of 102-72.
Southern Vermont is now 1-0 on the season, in the next teaser the team heads to Maryland for the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic tournament at Stevenson College. In back-to-back days they face-off with ranked opponents #21 Salisbury University and #4 University of St. Thomas – Minnesota. Before they can hit the floor, we have a morning shootaround featuring the Florida Shooting Drill.
