Jose Ferreras presents: Lorelei, the enchantress…

About the Author: A member of SVC’s Shires Press Series for publishing his first book, Jose Ferreras (Creative Writing, Class of 2017) started writing this six-part series of “character teasers” to give sneak peeks into the supernatural personalities of his novel, tentatively titled Decoded. Jose feels happiest when immersing himself in fantasy and supernatural writing. He hopes that this character teaser series will encourage readers to pick up a copy of his book at Northshire Bookstore when it is officially released in April, 2017.

Lorelei

by Jose Ferreras

Lorelei’s long, blonde hair whipped through the cool air as she was pushed off of the hotel balcony and fell ten stories. As she neared the ground, she shifted her body midair and lifted her hands. Her fingers sparked with magic, and it shot out from the palms of her hands and engulfed her, slowing down the fall. Gravity around her depleted and she landed carefully on the ground.

The mage let out a huff of frustration and brushed her hair back before she quickly tied the sash around her waist to shield her naked body below the robe. Her eyes flared as a million thoughts crossed her mind about how she would destroy the Italian man upstairs. She should have noticed sooner that something was wrong with him. She scanned her surroundings, her eyes settling upon the people of Rome, who were making their way towards the Colosseum. She noticed the zombie-like trance that they seemed to be under, before her eyes settled upon four, large hovering figures.

Lorelei blinked as her eyes focused on the horsemen–this was why she was here. As she stepped forward, she caught the attention of the brainwashed horde of people, who quickly rounded on her. She took a step back, bracing herself as she realized that she would have to fight her way through them if she hoped to make it to the Colosseum in time. She hesitated, but as the horde made their way towards her, she briefly noticed the naked, Italian man who had pushed her off the balcony exiting the building. Her eyes narrowed and she slashed her arm through the air, magic erupting from her skin and slamming into the horde straight on, turning everyone in the immediate area to stone.

She was ready.
