Sarah Billow (Nursing, Class of 2020) was born and raised in South Glens Falls, New York. Billow decided to come to Southern Vermont College because of the opportunities to major in Nursing and for a chance to play on the volleyball team here. Billow’s passion for helping people led to her deciding to pursue SVC’s nursing program. Billow wasn’t nervous about being an athlete in college and knows that it will take hard, consistent work outside of the gym as well. About being a student athlete, Billow said, “I was ready to take on the competition, but I know it first starts in the classrooms.”

Billow is a very dedicated person on and off the court. She has being playing volleyball for five years and also participated in club volleyball for four years with Ace Dig Kill, her local club team. Not knowing if she would make the team, Billow still worked hard and gave it her all in everything that she did. She had confidence in herself and kept up her academics to reach the goals she wished to achieve.

During volleyball season her biggest goal is make it to the championships. When asked about how her coach, Scott Fitzgerald (Psychology, Class of 2016), is during practice, she said, “ He is serious when need be. He pushes us to become better because he knows we can do better than what we give during those two hours a day. Other than that we make sure to joke around to not stay so serious and he makes sure we are having fun doing what we love to do.” Sarah loves being around her team and she is excited to be at SVC this year, joining a new group of girls which she finds she can call her sisters. When asked about how often they do team bonding things, she explained that they are together on a regular basis. Some of team live together so they are always together and others live near. The team always calls each other to see what they are doing, to go to dinner, or have study group to keep their grades up.
