Almost all of the bridges in Boston have been named after someone, which is why the city officials of Boston were shocked when they found one bridge that overlooked Brookline Avenue, a popular area for Red Sox fans, has not been named yet. After a short deliberation, that bridge was decided to be named after David Ortiz, also known as, Big Papi, who is the first Boston Red Sox player, ever, to have a bridge named after him.

David Ortiz is one of the best players to ever play on the Red Sox, according to Major League baseball commissioner Rob Manfred.  Not only has he changed the Red Sox forever, he has changed the city of Boston forever. “David Ortiz, was a symbol of strength, especially around the time of the Boston Marathon bombings, and he will always be remembered for that off-field component,” Manfred said.

David Ortiz, one of the best players that has ever played on the Red Sox, and was even on the team when they “reversed the curse” after decades of not winning a world series. This bridge being named after David Ortiz is the city’s way of showing him they appreciate not only all he has done for the Red Sox, but all he has done for Boston, as well, and no one will ever forget who Big Papi is.

Although New York fans do have love for their teams, and are not afraid to show it, nothing compares to the love New Englanders have for their teams, especially fans from Boston. When you go to Fenway Park, you can feel the love.  The atmosphere is completely different from anywhere else I have ever been.  I can only imagine how upset die-hard Red Sox fans were when they found out David Ortiz was retiring.

Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports, other than basketball. I grew up playing the sport and fell in love with it from the second I started playing. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, so I like the Yankees; but I do also like the rival team for the Yankees, which is the Red Sox.
