Who’s Gonna Take The Crown?

With the 2016 MLB playoffs in full time, it sounds like about the right time for the master predictor, RJ Henle, to give his input on who’s gonna snatch that coveted crown. These final four are really setting the bar high with their quality play, and I’m sure some fond baseball memories are on the horizon. So let’s take a look at these title contenders.

Cleveland Indians Vs. Toronto Blue Jays

The Cleveland Indians finished their 2016 regular season campaign with 94 wins and 67 losses. They were lead by stellar play from star middle infielders Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis. Unlikely heroes like the revitalized Mike Napoli and rookie outfielder Tyler Naquin, with key contributions from Jose Ramirez. Plus a pitching staff that features Cy Young winner Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Josh Tomlin, Trevor Bauer, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen all contributed to Cleveland’s success

The Toronto Blue Jays have had a pretty exciting postseason already. After beating their division rival in the sudden death playoff game by an impressive walk off home run, they then swept the Texas Rangers in the second straight ALDS (American League Division Series). Toronto has been led all year by loads and loads of stardom. Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, and Edwin Encarnacion are among the most notorious of the powerful and dangerous Jays lineup. Phenomenal pitching by J.A. Happ, Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez, and Marco Estrada pushed the late surge made by Toronto.

Prediction: Winning this series will be made by teams winning on the road, but these teams jump on the fans’ level of intensity. This series will be tight, but I think Cleveland will be able to outlast Toronto in the pitching battle. Indians in five games.

Chicago Cubs Vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs are the best team in baseball. No doubt about it, no way around it. Loaded with offensive power with names like Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Addison Russell, Miguel Montero, Jason Heyward, Javier Baez, there’s no shortage to the talent that surrounds the cubs on offense. What’s even better? Their pitching staff throws the absolute shit out of the ball. John Lackey, Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, and Jake Arrieta all have great big league and big game experience, while the mid season addition of Fireballer Aroldis Chapman shores up the back-end leaving this team virtually without holes. This is supposed to be the team of destiny; that’s why they were preseason locks for a title; that’s why they won 103 games this season. The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled of a huge upset by shocking the Washington Nationals in the NLCS (National League Championship Series): led by clutch hitting, team chemistry, and fantastic pitching by Clayton Kershaw. For the Dodgers to win this series, they’ll have to steal a couple of games at the friendly confines of Wrigley field. Which, I don’t see happening. I think the Chicago Cubs win in six games.

World Series: Cleveland Indians Vs. Chicago Cubs

The last title one by both teams is the Indians in 1948. Chicago is in an 108-year drought for a championship so these teams are playing for more than a ring. This fight will be a heavyweight one, but I think advantage goes to Cleveland. I just don’t see anyone going through that pitching staff, bullpen, and core that the Indians have built. I just think Chicago will be waiting a year more for their time. Indians in six games.
