Chicago Cubs Win World Series

For the Chicago Cubs, fans, friends of fans, and anyone who prides themselves in Cubs glory and history… Congratulations!!! The longest, most discussed championship drought is officially over after coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series in one of the most incredible, if not the greatest baseball game ever played.

After losing games four and five at the friendly confines (Wrigley Field), the Cubs looked all but alive looking straight in the barrel of two must-win road games. But the cubbies showed us fans why they had the heart and the attitude to be crowned champions. Taking nothing away from the Cleveland Indians who did everything they could to battle with the Cubs, the team of destiny just had a little more gas.

The Chicago Cubs were built for this and should be able to compete for titles’ for years to come. After following 12 or so years of absolutely horrid play on the Northside of Chicago, Owner Tom Ricketts decided to hire General Manager Theo Epstein, who effectively ended the Red Sox curse in ‘04 then won another World Series again with the Sox in ‘07. Epstein then hired manager Joe Maddon, whose unconventional managerial style and use of clubhouse antics would generally bode well with the younger player in the Cubs locker room, the same that it did with Maddon and the 2008 Tampa Bay Rays, who should haven’t even made the postseason let alone winning the pennant before their loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

So back to the built for this….  The Chicago Cubs only lost 58 games out of 161 (one was canceled) this year and with 103 wins awarded them being named ‘the best team in baseball’. But with the absurdity of baseball, the best team doesn’t usually win, just the lucky, hard-working team, whose chemistry and winning clicks at EXACTLY the right time. Chicago’s pitching was almost as dominant as their hitting, all five starters won over 10 games, and they had 3 guys who posted Cy Young type years. The Chicago cubs hitters? Relentless. Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant, Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo? That lineup is dangerous, the pitching is phenomenal, and the Cubs have a recipe for success for many years to come.

Bye Baseball…. See you in March.
