The SVC Men’s Volleyball program is now in full force for its 2015 campaign. They have started off their preseason with a 7-2 record which includes a conference win over NECC rivals, Regis College. This win was a big one for the Mountaineers as it helped secure a 5th overall conference ranking during the NECC Men’s Volleyball Preseason Poll in January; Revis College earned the 2nd place seed.
The SVC Men’s Volleyball team didn’t agree with the preseason poll results. For instance, Senior outside hitter Keven Walley said,” I felt it was disrespectful towards our program. I absolutely disagree with the idea that we will finish 5th in conference. We have the best freshmen in the conference this year and a lot of returners. We will shock our conference this year with our success.”
In the past couple of games, SVC has been able to win some weekly honors due to their early success in their first set of games. Senior opposite, Scott Fitzgerald was named NECC player of the week due to his performance during the Cairn University Classic held on January 30th and 31st. Freshman outside hitter, Stewart Ramirez was named Rookie of the Week for his performance during the Cairn Classic as well. The week before, Senior middle blocker, Joey Dighton was named NECC player of the week.
The Mountaineers next home match-up is against conference rival Elms College on Saturday, March 7th 11:00 AM in the Mountaineer Athletic Center (MAC).
