Top+10+TV-Series+on+Netflix

Since my last Netflix article was pretty well received, I’ve decided to scour the ends of Netflix to find 10 TV series that are well worth watching. So here we go with part 1:

Love –  This Netflix Original web series is a romantic-comedy show created by popular director/writer/producer Judd Apatow. The series, which has only placed 10 episodes in their first season, is a “real life” dating, exploring the male and female perspectives of a relationship. The show follows two characters: Mickey (Gillian Jacobs), a program manager at a satellite radio station, who is in a on-again/off-again relationship with a cocaine addict, and Gus, a Hollywood tutor, who recently broke up with a longtime girlfriend after she cheated on him. The series was renewed for a second season, which will premiere on Netflix in 2017. The running time for an episode is 25-45 minutes long.

Narcos –  This Netflix Original series follows the story of infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, who became a billionaire through his cocaine distribution, while also showing the opposing viewpoints of other drug lords, and focusing also on the lives of DEA agents. The show currently has two seasons on Netflix. Narcos was nominated for eight different awards on five different award shows. The “critically acclaimed series can range from 45-60 minutes each episode.

Orange is the New BlackThis groundbreaking Netflix Original series is based upon the real life story of  Piper Kerman’s memoir Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison. The show focuses on the life of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a woman in her 30s living in New York City who is sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary. Piper had been convicted of transporting drug money 10 years prior to the indictment. The Piper we know now is certainly a different Piper than she was back then, disrupting her new, lavish, quiet lifestyle. Orange has been praised for its portrayal of humanizing prisoners, gender equality, sexuality and body empowerment. The series has garnered 16 Emmy Award nominations and four wins. There are currently four seasons all with 13 episodes, ranging about 50 minutes each.

Black MirrorThis show is an anthology series that features speculative fiction in the 21st century. The show has some dark and satirical themes. The first two seasons played out on channel 4 in England, but gained more popularity as season three was released on Netflix. The show was created by Charlie Brooker, who said in an interview about the series that “each episode has a different cast, a different setting, even a different reality. But they’re all about the way we live now – and the way we might be living in 10 minutes’ time if we’re clumsy.” The show is a modern day Twilight Zone, and the episodes run for about an hour.

RiverThis six-part television series, which currently only has one season, follows Deputy Inspector John River (Stellan Skarsgård) of the Metropolitan Police Service, who is reeling from the mysterious murder of his partner, and lover, Detective Sergeant Jackie Stevenson. With visions of dead people, imaginary literary characters, and a restrictive boss, River races to find the answers surrounding the death of a teenage girl, and his lost partner. The story doesn’t have a true crime kind of feel; it’s a story of personal tragedy, triumph, and overcoming mental disease. The show plays out in six episodes and runs about an hour per episode, but each show ends with a cliffhanger. The ability to turn it off is almost impossible.
