Netflix Originals Recommendations

Netflix+Originals+Recommendations

With Netflix being one of the most popular streaming sites universally, it’s no surprise that when they started launching their own original content, it got tons of support. As college students, we usually have so much going on that it’s really easy to get burnt out quickly. It’s perfectly acceptable to take a Netflix break and just chill. Unfortunately, sometimes we find ourselves in a “I don’t know what to watch” daze after we’ve finished our favorite series. As a hardworking college student- you deserve options! So, here are some Netflix Originals recommendations you can check out:

Stranger Things

Many of you most likely already binged this series, but I’m just putting it back on your radar because season two will be coming on Netflix this month! Be excited, because the adventure continues for a band of friends as they face many thrilling challenges related to their previous encounter with a parallel universe called “The Upside Down”. What is happening with Will? What is the Upside Down exactly? Will Eleven come back? What happened to the Eggos? Be on the look out for season two of Stranger Things this month, the release date is October 27th! (Now you have an excuse to rewatch all of season one for a refresher!)

Anne with an E

For those of you that enjoy a good old fashioned story, or if you’ve read the story “Anne of Green Gables” I recommend this heart warming tale. An intelligent redhead orphan girl moves in with a pair of older siblings who originally hoped to adopt a boy to work for them, but instead got her. These seven episodes of purity could leave you in tears as you watch her go through all the struggles of not being accepted. At times you will be annoyed and maybe even frustrated, but in the end you’ll smile and maybe even wipe away a tear.

To The Bone

This movie isn’t for everyone, since it does show what someone with anorexia nervosa goes through on a daily basis. It’s a very eye opening story, as you watch the main character Ellen struggle with her self image and see her take steps towards getting better, but then suddenly pulling back. You start to wonder about a few things. How does she interact with others in a group home? Why is the doctor so unusual? Will she take that big step forward to getting better? Why is her stepmother so obnoxious? You’ll definitely be captivated by this chilling drama.

Good Morning Call

Interested in foreign drama, or just looking for something different? This Japanese love story is just for you! A girl named Nao moves into her new apartment to find another tenant claiming that he is the real owner. Later, they find out that they were in fact both scammed. This light hearted series leaves a warm feeling in your heart as you question how will they work out their issue with the apartment.

Free Rein

We all have the guilty pleasure of enjoying those teen dramas, but when you add horses? Aw man! Zoe and her family go on vacation, where she makes friends with some local girls and their horses. She has a scary encounter with the so called “untrainable horse” and this starts her ever exciting horse adventures. All the while she gets to experience her teenage life. Can she train the untameable? Why is her mother so against it?

Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster

You better be in the mood to laugh hysterically, because that’s what will happen as you watch this comedy show with Jeff Dunham and all his puppet friends while they visit Ireland. If you don’t know Jeff Dunham, then you must have at least heard of his puppet’s all too famous line “Silence! I kill you!” If you know that, then you know Jeff Dunham!. Jeff’s puppet crew loves to make fun of him and judge him for the things he does. Enjoy each of these fun characters as they tell different jokes (it will definitely be a good break from that one dull assignment).

Troll Hunters

This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one kids’ animation story. Dreamworks animation worked with Netflix to bring us this fun and action packed story of a teenage boy becoming a Troll Hunter for a whole world of Trolls. He goes from being a normal boy to a hero for this new world. His friends also join him as they fight against other evil trolls and their ring leader who live among them as human! Who is the ring leader? What’s their goal? As a human will he be able to keep up with his troll training?

Little Evil

The best way I can describe this movie to you is stepfather to the antichrist. This movie follows the male protagonist into his new life with his wife and her son, who is just a “little evil” since you know he’s the antichrist. As a new father (step-father) he needs to make a decision, be a good father and just accept it even if it kills him, or kill the little devil and end up making his new wife hate him. Wow…what an ultimatum. Which do you think he’d pick? Honestly he should just leave, am I right? Enjoy this light thriller and comedic movie, as you silently tell yourself you don’t want kids for fear they’d be a little devil.

Now that you know a little bit about all these shows, pick one (or all!) and go take that well deserved homework break. You can work on it later- we won’t tell! Happy bingeing!
