Everyone talks about egg hunting when Easter comes around. Most people said that when they were younger they would get baskets or bags and run around in the backyard to look for these eggs filled with candy that were hidden by the Easter Bunny. I’m going to tell you something about myself. I only remember egg hunting once in my life. That was because my mom dragged me with her to her church which was having a picnic for the kids with egg hunting and painting. Since that was when I was younger, now that I’m ‘older’ in age, I’m starting to really think where these odd traditions even come from in the first place…

What I remember Easter being about was the rebirth of Jesus Christ (or something like that). This reminded me of a time when I was in elementary school, on my way home and I saw a poster of an Easter bunny holding a basket of eggs, and I remember thinking, “why are eggs a big theme for easter?” I understand Jesus had rose from the dead, but eggs aren’t coming back to life. It’s just unborn baby chicks. If they wanted something to represent Jesus rising again, they should have used a phoenix, like in Harry Potter. (I had a phase where I believed a phoenix was all powerful.)

After staring at this poster for a second to long; I noticed that the eggs weren’t the only strange thing about easter. It was the bunny. The Easter Bunny was apparently a big part of the franchising of the holiday, however, what puzzled my younger self was the fact that the bunny giving away eggs? They also made it seem like these eggs came from it, yet that didn’t make any sense. Bunnies don’t lay eggs, they’re mammals. It should have been a chicken. I couldn’t wrap my head around the thought for why they would advertise a bunny as something that has eggs, but it made me realize maybe bunnies were actually platypuses. At that point in my life, I honestly believed my whole life was a lie. I was nine.

Anyway, Happy Easter!
