The first thing that comes to a student’s mind when they are nearing graduation is how long is it going to take to get a job in their field of choice. Well for most of us that are in college we wonder everyday whether or not we will find a job after graduation. I have to say that eventually everyone will find a job in the field of choice. It may not be right out of college but it also may be. We need to stay positive and look forward to the future.

Statistics that I came across from U.S. News says that there is expected to be more than 17,000 new radiologic technologist jobs created by 2024. This is a nine percent increase of jobs. So no matter what, the field is growing, so there will always be a job unless something detrimental happens and we lose our health care system. According to ASRT job bank last week, there were 205 available jobs within the U.S. for radiologic technologists. There were 37 in California and 47 in Texas. These jobs are ranging with modalities. Modalities are the branches of x-ray like CT scan, or MRI, or even PET scans and Fluoroscopy.

Jobs are created everyday and with the baby boomers starting to dwindle out, more jobs are opening up. These numbers that were provided earlier in the article are numbers that include this dwindling of workers. With the demand of healthcare, growing the demand for healthcare professionals is also growing.

Nothing is guaranteed that you will get a job offer or not while in college. Hospitals and other medical facilities are watching and all the facilities do talk to one another. So everyday that is spent in the clinical setting students need to treat the time in those facilities as if it is a job interview. It doesn’t matter whether or not a student doesn’t want to work in that facility, it is important to make a good impression on the first facility just as much as the next one.

Having a good work ethic and having a professional appearance and demeanor helps get the job that you want. The most important thing to have is great patient care skills and know what to do with every situation that comes in the professional’s direction. It’s important to treat every job that you have in life like it’s your last. What I mean is, you need to treat every job like it’s the only job you’ll ever have and you need it to last. You want to do every task that is asked of you and you want to make sure you hit every aspect of your responsibility in that position and exceed when necessary. Jobs are created every day, but not always guaranteed.
