ATYPICAL: Worth the Netflix Binge?

This TV series follows a high school student named Sam, an 18-year-old on the autistic spectrum as he searches for love and independence. Sam almost always talks without thinking. He doesn’t lie or tell someone something just because they want to hear it. Sam is overly blunt and doesn’t really consider others’ feelings, not because he doesn’t want to, but simply because his brain isn’t wired to do so. He can’t handle lots of lights and noises all at once, and he gets easily overwhelmed. Sam has a sister name Casey and they live with their parents, Doug and Elsa. Sam faces multiple challenges throughout the series such as graduating high school and deciding to go away to college.

While Sam is on his funny, yet emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must struggle with change in their own lives. Sam is trying out new things like going to school dances and trying to be in a relationship. This scares Elsa because there’s a lot of life changes and events that she thought Sam would never be able to do, and now he’s taking them head on. My recommendation rate from 1 to 10 to watch this series is definitely a 10! Atypical is an awesome show and you can even watch it on your phone with a subscription to Netflix. My favorite character is Casey. She’s real, funny, athletic and is surprisingly relatable. This series is the best to binge watch when you’re looking for an interesting and funny show!
