In preparation for Halloween, I put together a little snack that all adults will love. It’s got a little twist compared to the normal “dirt cake” you may be use to but it’s just as yummy!
What you’ll need:
Chocolate pudding
Milk
Oreo Cookies
Cool Whip
Alcohol of your choosing (Mine was vanilla vodka)
Step One: Make the Pudding
To make the pudding, follow the directions on the package BUT only add half the milk it calls for and substitute the other half for your preferred alcohol. Mix together well and put in the refrigerator to set for approximately five minutes.
Step Two: Crush the Oroes
While you wait, it’s time to make your dirt. Grab your package of Oreo cookies and twist them apart, scrape the middle off and set aside in a bowl for later and put the cookies in a plastic bag. You may have to do this once or twice to get the amount that you need. Smash the cookies well enough so there isn’t a lot of big chunks, you can use your hands if you’re feeling energetic but the base of a spoon works just as well and won’t leave your palms red and achy.
Step Three: Add the Cool Whip
By the time you finish crushing up your Oreos, the pudding mixture should have set enough to where it’s a little thicker. Now, add a few spoon fulls of cool whip to your pudding mixture until your satisfied with the texture. It should be the constancy of pudding so don’t worry about adding too much. Mix well and gradually add some of the Oreo crumbs to the mixture.
Step Four: Portion Control
Portion out your pudding in whatever container you would like, I chose small dixi cups which turned out to hold a little more than I thought. People had trouble finishing the shot in one sitting so choose wisely. One portioned, sprinkle more Oreo on the top of the pudding to symbolize the “dirt” and put in the refrigerator to set. I left mine overnight and the consistency was perfect.
Step Four: Decorate
Most people put gummy worms in the cups to add a little decoration but since we are coming up on Halloween I did something a little different. I went Walmart and found these gummy lollipops in the shape of zombie hands that I thought were adorable and decided that was going to be my special touch. Because eighth only came in a package and these shots were meant for a friend’s birthday, I put candy corn and candles in the cups that didn’t have the zombie hands.
* These shots were a big hit and I would recommend them for your next party, they are super simple to make and they will fly off the table before you notice they are gone.
